KAFKA [incarcerated]

  [a durational performance installation]

16-19 September 2021
 Patarei fortress
 Tallinn, Estonia
Kafka [incarcerated] is a site-specific, durational performance that will take place inside the wall of the former Patarei prison over a time period of four days in September.
An international team of artists will use the entire text of Franz Kafka as a starting point in creating an immersive audio-visual installation inside Patarei fortress. On the 16th of September 2021 the creator and performer Agnes Oberauer will perform continuously inside the prison walls for 24 hours. She will then take a break of 24 hours before repeating the performance again, only twice as fast: The second performance will be only 12 hours long. Following this, she will take a 12 hour break before repeating the performance again, this time in a 6 hour timespan. She will continue in this vein until time has completely dissolved.
By creating an interdisciplinary installation and performing the text of Franz Kafka inside inside the walls of Patarei Vangla, we hope to create a poetic space that allows the past, the present and the future to join hands.
Entry to the performance will be free. The performance will also be accessible to an international audience via livestream.
This performance is a hommage to the work of Franz Kafka and the memories held within the walls of Patarei. It is a creation inspired by and created for the city of Tallinn.
