Agnes Oberauer was born in Vienna and grew up in Austria, Russia and Ukraine.
She studied Drama and Philosophy at Royal Holloway University of London (2011-2014). Alongside her studies she completed multiple internships (Salzburger Festspiele, Opernhaus Zürich, Royal Opera House) in the fields of opera, theatre and dance.
Following the completion of her BA she worked as a resident director and assistant director at Schlosstheater Celle (2014-2016) and Thalia Theater Hamburg (2017-2019) in Germany. During this time she directed over 10 theatre productions and worked with internationally acclaimed directors such as Ene-Liis Semper, Jette Steckel, Christiane Jatahy and Kornél Mundruczó as an assistant director on over 20 theatre productions. She also worked for theatre festivals (Theater der Welt, Lessingtage), received numerous awards, taught workshops and created multiple interdisciplinary works.
After 5 years of working in the German state theatre she returned to university to complete an MA in Physical Theatre Performance Making at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallinn (2019-2021). Alongside her studies she continued to work internationally in the professional realm as a director, performance maker and performer.
With an expanding field of interests, she currently works freelance in and between the fields of performance, art, theatre, opera and film.
